Bummer is having a grand old-time, the hits just keep on coming. He commented recently on a post regarding the Southern Heritage Preservation Group’s anger toward Barack Obama and the recent secession craze. Bummer’s comment on Simpson’s Crossroads, a Civil War blog, read;
“Obama ran a more well-organized campaign. His party curried the favor of all minorities, the young, women and the disenfranchised. Romney’s campaign still believed in political thought of 2004. The demographics have changed and unless the Republican party can become more contemporary and progressive they cannot win or come close in 2016.
The secession movement has already been ruled on and is a mission of fools. Bummer’s only beef is when he is stereotyped as an old, fascist, racist, conservative white guy.”
rcocean responded;
“Women? Really? Obama got 42% of white women. And given that the “disenfranchised” can’t vote, how did they help Obama?”
Bummer responded;
“Bummer never mentioned voting, “curried the favor” , I related women, not white women’s vote. I was stating that Obama had his act together in order to win the election. What’s your beef?”
Either the thought is not being communicated properly or maybe Bummer just can’t fathom the issues. What ever the disconnect, Bummer will just chalk it up to being an old white guy. Sometimes you just don’t get it or…. maybe you do.
Bummer
The reaction to the recently-concluded election fascinates me. This is because I’ve long wondered what it would have been like to see the U.S. disintegrate in real time after Lincoln’s election. We’re not going to have a second Civil War but this experience shows people sometimes say things they should know better than to express. I grew up in a red state and live in a blue state, so I’ve resided on both sides of the political divide. It amuses me to be reminded all over again of the truth of a Will Rogers quote: All it would take to make some men atheists is to tell them God belongs to the other party. Don’t go out on a limb – you will have to find a way off and it may be painful and embarrassing.
Thanks for the input. Will Rogers is always”right on.” Bummer tries to stay within the bounds of Civil War history and how the past reflects on the present. Just because Bummer describes himself as an “old white guy” doesn’t necessarily mean that he is. He also believes in giving credit where it is due. More will be revealed.
Sincerely,
Bummer
